35 years ago my grandma tought me to sew straight lines on a quilt, which was really not very straight. So I thought I was a lost cause, not my grandma she always told me to never give up.
Now at 30 years ago I sat down to make my first real baby outfit which I still have in my keep sake box.
first I cut it out, then I started sewing it, it looked a little funny.
So I called my sister in law and told her what I did and it looked funny, she started laughing and said I did the same thing when I first started sewing.
To make this funny story short.... I sewed the legs for the bottom and the shirt needed extra at the shoulders and I forgot to cut facings. I fixed the shorts, and just edged stitched around the shirt and added extra at shoulders. The mistake never held me back from learning how to sew.
I never gave up I kept learning more until one day my mom and sister in law wanted me to put my stuff in the state fair with them, to see if we could win a ribbon and money.
Well we did I won all 1st place ribbons and still have those ribbons. My mom and sister in law won 2ND and 3rd. I give the credit to my grandma who never gave up on me.
So as life goes on I still push myself to make the best handmade gifts, if I don't like it, it does not get sold, I will make a new one.

  1. Way to go! I used to have an aunt when I was little who made a couple of dresses for me that she put into and won a ribbon for at the fair! :)
